Dear Friday

Dear Tea, thank you for being there for me while I'm sick. You make me feel so much better.

Dear Skin, I'm sorry I let the sun burn you to a crisp. I know I resemble a lobster right now, and I promise you I will try not to let that happen again.

Dear Jessy, have a super duper 18th birthday today! And I'm so sorry I'm not in the country to give you a birthday hug.

Dear Facebook, I never did appreciate you til this Summer. Thank you for keeping me in touch with everyone at home.

Dear Laundry, I know I have neglected you in the last few days. Catch up at the weekend? Promise.
Love always,
Orla

This Week

This week was endless cups of sweet tea and lovely chats with wonderful friends.

This week was being dorky in public. Practicing our British accents, playing in shopping trolleys, skipping and being pirates. Why ever not?

This week we had flowers on the table. Red carnations. A little pop of energy and fun, one of the simplest of pleasures.

This week was celebrating birthdays. Shout-outs to Mam, David, Eva, Emilia, Niamh and Jane. I hope your birthdays were positively wonderful!

This week was trying very hard to promote my blog and Youtube account, and being over the moon with every new comment, subscription and view! You are wonderful for reading this, and when I see your one extra view in my stats I will instantly want to hug you. :)

Love always,

Happy Birthday, Mammy!

It's a big day today- it's my Mam's birthday! :)

Love you lots and lots!

And I don't think Sampson would be quite so disciplined... Let's keep him away from cake!

Happy Birthday! :)

Love, Orla. x

You'll never guess what...

(A post requested by the lovely Aoibheann!)
**Photo heavy

It always happens that everything will be super calm and slightly boring for weeks on end, and then all of a sudden everything happens at once. Am I the only one? Well, not to worry, because I have just had the most exciting 2 weeks!

On the 1st February, I met one of my biggest musical inspirations ever.

You don't know who she is? What? Oh my goodness. Here!

You can of course skip these videos, and pretend I never posted them. You would be very silly to do that, and you would be missing out on hearing a musical genius at work. Just saying. :)

So yes, that's what happened on 1st February 2012. Kate and I traveled all the way across the {tiny} country  to watch Kina Grannis play live and to meet her afterwards. We were exhausted, and Kate ate a very questionable burger before the show which meant while I had butterflies listening to Kina sing, Kate had food poisoning. BUT- it was all worth it! Sorry Kate, I know I said I wouldn't mention that...

And what else happened in the last 2 weeks?

Well, I may have mentioned before that I have the best friends in the entire world. Better than the best! And I may have mentioned a couple times that I'm turning 18 this week? Well.... My fantastic, amazing, incredible, wonderful, perfect, super duper friends brought me to Paris for my birthday!!!

Yes, they really really did! I told you- Best. Friends. Ever. Wanna see pictures? No? Keep scrollin'...

My new boyfriend.

This is Laura's zebra. He will travel the world with us, and we will take pictures of him everywhere!

Kate is an absolute genius, I love her! She got us all the way around Paris and safely back to our hotel, and we didn't get lost once! Everyone, please clap for Kate.

We bought teddy bears at Disney Land! Thumper is mine, Nala is Kate's, and Eeyore was bought for Kate's beautiful niece and God-daughter Anna Jane, who is 3 months old on Thursday. :)

Sorry for the photo overload there- I had to narrow it down from 703 pictures, I thought I did well! So that was my amazing birthday present from the best friends in the world. :) And I will leave you with this video....

Have a happy Monday. :)

Remember When?

Remember when dandelion seeds could really tell your future? You'd watch the fluffy seeds take flight, full of hope that your wish might just come true.

Remember walking with the waves, watching each one tumble over the next? And trying to guess just how far each wave would reach before retreating shyly to the ocean?

Remember when it was okay to just be yourself, to not have to worry what the rest of the world saw you as? Remember when it was attractive to be messy, and fashion wasn't an issue?

Remember when we cried only because we'd stepped on a lego piece or we'd dropped our lollipop?

I'm turning 18 on Thursday. That's getting big. Don't get me wrong, I am suuuper excited! I have been waiting for this birthday for a very long time. I'm definitely ready for it. I've never been more excited for a birthday. :) I'm just feeling a little sentimental about it, I guess. I won't be a child ever again. I won't feel the excitement of loosing a tooth, or fit in the baby swings at the playground. I'll get odd looks for skipping in public (though I still do that anyway!), being in on grown up conversations are no longer such a big deal and Christmas will never be quite as magical.

Wow, I didn't mean to make this post so sad! There is an awful lot that I miss about being a kid... But I am so happy to be starting a new chapter of my life. And I have photos and memories to look back on always. :) It's just happiness tinted with nostalgia.

Now, on to the next adventure....

Love always,

18 Before 18: Update 2!

18 Before 18
1. Read 3 books
2. Stick a note to the bottom of someone's shoe
3. Try 5 new foods
4. Have photos taken in a photo booth
5. Complete 18 random acts of kindness
6. Surprise someone with an unexpected gift
7. Write a thank you note for someone who won't expect it
8. Put a video on Youtube
9. Make a playlist of the last year. 10. Have 20 followers on my blog
11. Write a letter to my future children
12. Complete the '30 Days of Pictures' project (which I will explain in my next post)
13. Learn to wrap the entire Fresh Prince theme tune (I might even provide video evidence)
14. Write a Time Capsule entry in my diary
15. See how many marshmallows I can fit in my mouth
16. Write a letter of support to Kate & Gerry McCann
17. Write a list of what I have learned in 18 years
18. Go without chocolate- I failed at this one!

I have 10 things left to do, and 20 days to do them in. Yay! Wanna see me stuff those marshmallows in my mouth?

And on a completely different note... I've been thinking a lot recently about this blog. I am really trying to make it a success, and I know that it's not really working just yet, but I am absolutely over the moon about having 21 followers!

Every single time I notice that I have another follower, I feel like doing a happy dance, no lie. And comments? Well they really do make my day. So I thought maybe you could do something for me... Maybe?

I would really really love it if you'd leave a comment to let me know that you're reading. I want to know where these random views are coming from.

I want to know you. :)
